We are able to deliver this CoSHH course at our own training centre in West Yorkshire, or at your premises if suitable facilities are available, where you will be instructed by our own health and safety consultant.

Aims

This one-day course aims to equip delegates with the appropriate knowledge and practical skills which will enable them to make effective workplace CoSHH assessments with confidence. Assessment will be by a short end test.

Who should complete this course?

The course is designed for employees with some knowledge of CoSHH and are involved with using hazardous substances and CoSHH Assessment.

Objectives

At the end of the programme, you should be able to:

  • Outline legal requirements for control of hazardous substances (CoSHH, PPE, etc)

  • Describe the main types of occupational health risk

  • Outline a general strategy for control of occupational health risks

  • Explain the nature of exposure limits and control limits

  • Describe the main forms of chemical attack on the body and the main routes of entry to absorbing areas

  • Outline control strategies for hazardous substances and biological agents

  • Develop and use a simple risk assessment model for a range of hazardous substance risks Explain the principles of air contamination control by dilution and local exhaust ventilation

  • Describe the main types of equipment available for protection against health hazards and circumstances in which personal protective equipment is appropriate

  • Course review

  • There is a multiple-choice assessment at the end of the course, with results provided immediately. 70% pass rate required.

  • There is also a practical where candidates are required to carry out a risk assessment after the course to verify the learner’s understanding. This is to be submitted 2 weeks after the course.

  • Gaining a better understanding of health and safety risks relating to hazardous substances. 

  • Learning to identify the different hazard symbols. 

  • Understanding the different types of hazardous substances and the ill-effects they can cause. 

  • Understanding CoSHH regulations. 

  • Familiarisation of a CoSHH risk assessment
